January 21, '99 - HUSKY HOCKEY DROPS TWO GAMES TO OR
GAME #1 - UW vs. OR, Friday January 21, 2000
Ducks win 4-1
The first few minutes of the game the Dawgs were
skating stride for stride with the Ducks, but the
first goal was scored on the Huskies, which seemed to
take the bark out of the Dawgs. The Ducks scored
again but the Huskies returned the favor when #16 Clay
Josephy scored on a powerplay. However, the Ducks
were not done and scored again, ending the first
period leading 3-1. The Huskies came out flat in the
second and the Ducks capitalized and scored their
fourth and final goal of the evening. The second half
of the second period the Huskies decided to show up
and continued to play better in the 3rd, off and on.
But the damage was done and the Ducks were handed the
victory.
GAME #2 - UW vs. OR, Sat., January 22, 2000
Ducks win 6-4
In the first period of the second game the Huskies
came out flying and the two teams went back and forth
at a high pace. The Huskies came out hitting and
skating harder, which paid off when they scored first
with 14:26 remaining in the first period. Clay Josephy
attempted to stuff the puck past the goalie when
linemate Kris Ossenkop jammed it home for the goal.
It took the Ducks 4 minutes to re-group and score
their first goal of the evening. Seven minutes later
with 3:30 left the Ducks scored their 2nd goal to
finish off the first leading 2-1.
The second period
the Huskies came out hot and score again to tie the
game. David Gasperino took a slap shot to the net and
Brian Mead tipped the puck over the goalie's head who
had come well out of his crease to block the shot.
But the Dawg's inconsistent game returned and Ducks
capitalized by scoring 2 goals at the end of the
period.
The beginning of the third period was all
Ducks. After giving the Husky goalie some serious
action, they scored 2 goals within the first few
minutes. The Ducks now lead 5-2. They scored one more
shortly after to lead 6-2. Then Husky's fresher goalie
Alex Huynh went in the net and made some spectacular
saves as the Ducks continued to press their offense.
After a major skirmish along the Huskies bench, 3
Ducks ended up in the penalty box to the Dawgs 2 and
the Huskies started a major offensive attack. Marty
Boyd scored his signature wrap-around as linemate
David Gasperino move two Ducks out of the zone. Then
with 3:49 left in the game a "freshman-connection" was
made when Kyle Bastien set up David Gasperino in front
of the net. But the time ran out and the Huskies,
although ralling at the end, could not come back from
the 2 goal deficit. The game ended with the Ducks 6
and the Dawgs 4.
