A
Letter to Coach Dayley from Nate Baum - October, 2000
(Nate is from
back East and he played for Wheaton for 2 years at the Division III
varsity level)
Hi
Coach Dayley,
I
just had a few more thoughts on the team and wanted to let you know.
As
I told you on the phone, I really wish I was able to play this year on the
PAC-8 team. Besides the fact
that UW classifies me as part-time, I know that not playing this year
would have been the decision I eventually came to anyway.
Full-time work, 5 graduate credits, and being married just wouldn't
allow me to put forth the time and energy I would want to put forth if I
made the commitment to play. I
have a huge heart for hockey and a strong desire to play at this caliber;
but ultimately this is the decision I have to make this year.
With that said,
I want to tell you that I have a HUGE respect for your program.
Just by visiting your website, attending the meeting, and the first
tryout I can tell this is a top-notch club hockey team.
I can tell you and coach Harris dedicate a great deal of time to
the team.
From
organizing both teams off the ice to extremely well-thought-out practice
plans, you make Husky hockey the best it can be.
I was also impressed with the work the board members do and the
opportunities that are provided to anyone with interest in hockey.
I
think its great that this club is about more than just one hockey team for
people with many years of experience, but also provides the chance to play
if you're new to the sport. Hockey
is an amazing sport, and the club does an exceptional job to let everyone
play - male or female, experienced or inexperienced.
Lastly,
I was also really impressed with some of the team leaders and captains
last night. They are leaders
by example, they motivate the team, and ultimately have the heart that's
needed to win championships.
Believe
me, it kills me not to be able to play with this team.
Mostly because I know how great it is to play on a team of this
caliber; how much fun it is, the friends I'd make, how great it feels to
work your butt off together as a team, and how great it feels to win.
I know that the group of guys I played with yesterday have what it
takes to be contenders this year - I only wish I could be a part of it.
I look forward to cheering you on from the stands.
Thanks
for letting me tryout, getting information for me, and making yourself
available. Best of luck and
have a great season.
Nate
