UW vs WWU - Game 2 - Away
January 20, 2001
The Winter Break had taken its toll, and
many wondered whom the imposters were that were skating in the Husky's
place, but The Huskies finally found themselves and their game after
beating WWU 11-7... but not until they came back from a three-goal deficit
early in the first.
The Huskies were bound to shake off the
ugliness and the inability to put the puck in the net experienced the
night before. However, the Dawgs needed a wake-up call before they could
step up to the plate. WWU came out like gangbusters and scored three goals
within 8 minutes of the first period. The Dawgs woke up and bounded back
and scored three goals in less than two minutes. The first goal for the
Dawgs was Marty Boyd at 11:04 when he stepped out of the corner. Then at
10:23, on a power play, Matt Carlson scored and then repeated himself at
9:46 when he pulled the goalie out of position for the third goal for the
Huskies. The first period ended in a 3-3 tie, the Huskies had 11 shots on
net to WWU's 8 shots.
The second period the Vikings scored at
12:36 on a power play. From that moment on the two teams traded goals back
and forth. Matt Carlson scored his third goal at 8:56 when he snapped the
puck into the upper right corner. Then Brett Lawrence set up defenseman
Kyle Bastien who's slap shot found the back of the net. Then WWU scored at
6:37 to bring it within one, and seconds later Carlson set up Clay Josephy
who was in front of the net and snapped in a one-timer. The WWU game back
and tied the game at 3:42. With 58.5 seconds on the clock the Huskies
ended the period when Carlson game out of the corner and set up Josephy
again who waited for the goalie to drop and lifted it over his head. The
second period the Dawgs led 7-6 and out shot the Vikings 19-16.
The third period was all about the
Huskies. The Dawgs went on a scoring spree and put in their first goal at
19:38 when a Marty Boyd shot rolled over the line. The Dawgs were down 2
men at 15:54 but were able to kill the odd-man advantage, which boosted
their energy. At 7:11 Sam Kim scored on a power play, unassisted. Then at
6:56 Marty Boyd scored again off of a face-off. WWU added one to the
scoreboard at 4:06 with an aggressive fore-check, but the Huskies returned
the favor at 3:32 when Sam Kim let loose a booming slap shot from the
point. The Huskies out shot the Vikings 16 to 8.
The game ended with the Huskies winning
11-7, with Matt Carlson tallying 3 goals and 3 assists, Marty Boyd with 3
goals and one assist, Sam Kim with 2 goals and 2 assists, Clay Josephy
with two and Kyle Bastien with one goal. The Huskies had 46 shots on net
with the Vikings taking 32. The Vikings had 18 penalty minutes, plus two
5-minute penalties and one game misconduct, while the Huskies had 22
minutes in penalties, plus one 5-minute penalty.
