UW vs WSU - Game 2 - Away
January 27th, 2001
The Huskies scored 35 seconds into the
first period against Washington State University, in the second game of
the weekend, when Brett Lawrence stepped out of the corner to set up Marty
Boyd who snapped it in the back of the net. The Cougars scored their first
goal two minutes later at 15:41 from a shot from the high slot. The
Cougars then had a power play at 12:31, but the Dawgs quickly killed it.
It was then the Huskies turn to have a one-man advantage, and they
converted when Matt Carlson scored off a rebound. The first period ended
with the Dawgs leading 2-1, and out shooting the home team 12-8.
The second period the Huskies picked up
the pace. The Dawgs started the second period how they started the first
period by scoring within the first 50 seconds. Brett Lawrence netted the
goal when he stepped out front on a power play. Three minutes later Sam
Kim set up Matt Carlson in the neutral zone, who beat the Cougar defense
1-on-1, and then found the lower right hand corner of the net for the
Husky's fourth goal of the night. Twelve seconds later Mary Boyd passed to
Brett Lawrence, who beat the defense and then the goalie. With less than
three minutes to go in the second period, Sam Kim jetted down the right
side of the ice and passed to Steve Hyun. Hyun then zipped the puck into
the upper right hand corner. The second period ended with the Dawgs
leading 6-1 and out shooting the Cougars 18-1.
The third period the Cougars shifted into
second gear as the Huskies relaxed a bit too much. The Huskies were scored
on at 14:52 and then two more goals in the third period. Despite out
shooting the Cougars 13-6, the Cougars out scored the Dawgs 3-0 in the
third. The game ended with a Husky victory, winning 6-3. The Cougars
totaled 16 penalty minutes, while the Dawgs had 8 minutes in penalties.
