UW vs WSU - Game 1 - Away
January 26th, 2001
The Huskies set the tone for the weekend
in the first game against Washington State University in Spokane when they
scored within the first 40 seconds of the game. Clay Josephy charged into
the zone, sped past a falling defender and beat the goalie from left to
right. Two minutes later Steve Hyun set up Brett Lawrence, who snapped the
puck over to Marty Boyd, who put it in the back of the net. Then at 5:36
Bryce Kennedy stepped around a WSU defenseman on the point and set up
Steve Hyun, who was standing on the far corner of the net and one-timed
the puck into the upper right corner. The Huskies finished the first
period leading 3-0.
In the second period the Huskies scored
within the first three minutes when Marty Boyd scored top shelf. Then at
7:57, while on a power play, the Huskies were scored by the shorthanded
Cougars. Charging back, the Husky's Steve Hyun scored his second goal of
the night, off the rebound shot of Sam Kim, which found the upper right
corner of the net.
In the third period the Dawgs continued
to work hard in the first seven minutes and finally scored at 12:18 when
Marty Boyd scored shorthanded, while the Cougars were on a power play.
Then, a minute later Sam Kim rushed the full length of the ice and scored
by jamming the puck in the near corner. The final goal of the game was
scored at 7:52 when Matt Carlson set up Bryce Kennedy, on a beautiful
give-and-go play, which he snapped the puck in the upper corner of the
