UW vs. WSU: 10/28/00

The Huskies swept WSU for the weekend and logged their 2nd PAC-8 win for the season with a 7-1 victory.

At one of the wildest games in recent history, in the stands and on the ice, fans enjoyed a fast and exciting game between Washington State school rivals. The annual Greek Night brought out several Greek associations that were cheering the home team on, yet the Cougars scored within 30 seconds of the dropping of the puck. However, their first goal would be their last. The Dawgs came storming back and scored their first goal of the evening 1-minute later. Marty Boyd put the Dawgs on the board to tie the game 1-1. Thirteen minutes later Boyd scored again from a pass from captain Sam Kim. The first period ended with a tight 2-1 in favor for the Huskies.

The second period the Dawgs had a power play and Paul Margolis came from the right to pass to Brian Mead who put it on the ice and past the Cougar goalie. Again, three minutes later the Huskies had another power play and David Gasperino scored from a pass from Margolis. The third period ended with a score of 4-1, and the Cougars hampered by penalties.

The third period, Brett Lawrence scored on a power play from a pass from Sam Kim. Brian Mead received a great break out pass from defenseman Brian Smith that led to a 2-on-2 into the Cougar’s zone. Mead scored the sixth goal for the UW as line mate David Gasperino tied up his man while Mead beat his defender and then the goalie. And Margolis scored the final goal for the evening after the Cougar goalie mishandled the puck and it popped out in front of the net. Margolis slid the puck into the net for an open-net goal. The third period the Huskies racked up the penalty minutes, as things got rougher towards the end. The Dawgs logged 22 minutes for the period, while the Cougars had 8 minutes.

The Huskies won 7-1 and logged 27 minutes in penalties for the game, while the Cougars logged 21 minutes. Husky goalie Joe Davis received 20 shots while Cougar goalie received 58 shots. Brian Mead, Marty Boyd and Sam Kim all had 2 points for the evening.
