Saturday night the Huskies pulled off a tight match against Stanford resulting in an overtime shootout win. Thru all three periods, the Huskies and the Cardinals battled back and forth on the ice. It wasn't until 12:07 until the Huskies scored the first goal. Marty Boyd streaked down the right side of the ice, passed to Brett Lawrence who one-timed the puck into the upper right hand corner of the net. Five minutes later Stanford scored from the Huskies high slot. The Dawgs responded two minutes later when Matt Carlson received a pass from Marty Boyd, setting up a break-away, which he place the puck in the five-hole. Both teams played a tight game with the Huskies edging over the Cardinals, 2-1 at the end of the first period. The Dawgs out shot Stanford 23 to 4.

The 2nd period started the teeter-tottering scoring between the two teams. Stanford game out strong and scored at 14:40. Then the Huskies were on a power play and converted at 13:04 when Clay Josephy set up Brett Lawrence who was streaking down the center and put the puck in the net. Then Stanford had the one-man advantage and scored at 11:07. The 2nd period ended with score tied 3-3. The Huskies out shot Stanford 16-6 in the second period.

In the third period, the Huskies scored immediately at 19:27 when Marty Boyd scored on a one-timer when Steve Hyun set him up. Then Stanford managed to take the lead 5-4 by scoring two goals while on 4-on-4 play at 18:15 and 17:27. Things looked grime as Stanford continued to hold the lead by playing defensive hockey. The Huskies tied the game up with 2:56 left in the game when Matt Carlson scored from a pass from Steve Savage. The Cardinals out shot the Huskies for the first time that weekend, 13 to 10. The tied score lead to the second overtime shoot-out in the history of Husky hockey.

In the overtime shoot out Husky goaltender, Joe Davis, stopped the first two Stanford players while Huskies Sam Kim and Brett Lawrence both scored. The third shooter from Stanford scored, while Marty Boyd for the Huskies missed. The fourth Stanford shooter was shut down by Davis, then Matt Carlson scored the game winner for the Huskies resulting in a 3-1 shootout victory and a final score of 5-4 over the Cardinals.

Matt Carlson and Brett Lawrence both had two goals each, while Marty Boyd scored one, during regular game play. Carlson, Lawrence and Sam Kim all have one shoot-out goal each in overtime play.
