UW vs. SU: 10/14/00

17 - 3

It was another blowout on Saturday.   It was a 17-3 victory for the Husky Hockey team against Seattle University in the second and last exhibition game of the season.   Twelve seconds into the game, Marty Boyd scores off a pass from Brett Lawrence.   By the end of the first period, the score was 6-2.   During the second period, seven penalties were handed out between the teams; one resulted in an awarded penalty shot for the Huskies.  Number eight, Paul Margolis.  He took the penalty shot, his and Husky Hockey team’s first ever, because of a delay of game penalty for covering the puck in the Seattle University’s goal crease.   Margolis says, “It was a simple move.   I went left, shot it, and the goaltender let me have it.”   Margolis also had a hat trick for the night.   In the third period, seven more goals were added to the Husky’s score.   Including one that was a short-handed goal at 10:37 by assistant captain Clay Josephy.   Seattle University scored their third and last goal at 4:20 of the third period.

Multiple players had multiple points in Saturday’s game.  Head coach Cindy Dayley commented on the game, “We ran a different system of play and executed them very well.   Hockey fundamentals improved as the game went on.”   Steve Hyun also was “impressed by the level of smart plays by the team.”

The Dawgs ended the weekend outscoring Seattle University 34 to 5. Husky rookie Brett Lawrence lead in points for the weekend with 9; Defenseman Brian

Smith tallied 8, and Sam Kim, Clay Josephy and Kyle Bastien all had 7 points apiece.

Although Saturday’s game was an exhibition game, it gave a preview of what is to come.   Next Friday will be the season opener against ACHA newcomer, Lewis and Clark.   Opening face-off starts at 10 pm at Olympicview Arena.
