UW vs. SU: 10/13/00

            In it's first exhibition game, Husky Hockey crushed Seattle University 17-2.   Within 41 seconds of the first period, number 16, Clay Josephy puts the puck into the net assisted by number 4, Mike Woods.   It became 5-0 with five minutes left in the first period when Kyle Bastien fires one from the top right face-off circle past Seattle University’s goaltender.   9 seconds left in the first period, rookie Brett Lawrence makes it 6-0, University of Washington.   Husky Hockey came out quick and fast in the first period. 

            In the second period, three goals were scored within 19 seconds time.   The Husky’s team captain, Sam Kim, rockets a puck, fed from Kyle Bastien, into the left side of the net.   Seattle University finally gets on the board at 12:45 making it 7-1.   The Huskies responded 14 seconds later with Brian Mead’s goal assisted by Paul Margolis.   By the end of the second period, the score was 11-1.   The Huskies unleashed 6 more goals in the third period.   Seattle University got the last goal at 17:50 of the third period making the final score 17-2.  

             Three players, team captain Sam Kim, Brian Mead, and rookie Brett Lawrence all got hat tricks for the night.   Sam Kim said, “It was a good start with a promising team.”   Both Lawrence and Kim agreed that it was a team effort and also gave their line-mates credit for their hat tricks.  

            In summations, this game gave us a peak into the future.   The Husky Hockey team came out with a blast!   The talent among the players and coaches is unbelievably deep.   Coach Cindy Dayley reflects on the first exhibition game, “We were working our systems and getting the rust off.   Our passing got better as the game went on.   We played really well for our first game.”
