The Huskies are undefeated at home
with wins both Friday and Saturday night against San Diego State
University. The Huskies won 10-3 on Friday and 13-1 on Saturday.
In Friday
night’s game, the Huskies worked on their offensive systems for the
majority of the night. The first period was spent in the majority of San
Diego’s defensive zone. The Huskies worked hard and scored two goals in
the first period. The first goal was scored by Matt Carlson and the second
by Brett Lawrence, while the Husky defense did a good job at holding San
Diego State University goal-less. During the second period, San Diego
Aztecs scored three minutes into the period, but the Huskies responded
with a goal fifty seconds later when Matt Carlson put the puck in the net
again. The second period was all Huskies as Carlson and Lawrence each
scored again, as well as Sam Kim who netted one with seconds left on the
clock. The third period was similar with Kim scoring two, Steve Hyun,
Brian Mead and again Carlson each scoring once. San Diego State added two
more goals, one in the beginning of the third and one at the end, to end
the game with a score of 10-3. Multiple players had multiple points for
the Huskies, including four goals from Matt Carlson, two goals and one
assist from Brett Lawrence, and two goals and two assists from Sam Kim The
Huskies out-shot the Aztecs 43-14. Joe Davis was in net for the Huskies.
Saturday night’s game was similar
to Friday night’s game except the Huskies played their systems with more
precision, which resulted in a better performance. Brett Lawrence scored
first, followed by Paul Margolis and Brian Mead. Lawrence finished the
period off by scoring with only a few minutes left in the first period.
The Huskies left the first period leading 4-0. The second period the
Huskies rallied for their best period yet and scored seven more goals,
three by Sam Kim, two by Lawrence and one each by Paul Margolis and Brian
Mead. The Huskies were able to hold off San Diego State for two periods
until the Aztecs scored their lone goal at 4:50 into the third period.
Shocked awake, the Huskies rallied to score two more goals, one by
Lawrence and one by Brian Smith, a defenseman turned forward to replace
the injured Marty Boyd. Like Friday night, multiple points were scored by
multiple players including five goals and one assist by Brett Lawrence,
two goals and an assist by Paul Margolis, two goals by Brian Mead, and two
goals by Sam Kim. The Husky defense kept San Diego State out of the Husky’s
defensive zone for the majority of the night. The Huskies took 78 shots
while San Diego took 14 shots on Husky Scott Southard.
