UW vs Microsoft .NET
March 3, 2001

Husky Hockey was honored to host the Microsoft Challenge .NET team in a team fund raising game against the Huskies on Saturday night. In conjunction with the game, Microsoft recruiters met with students in the lobby. It was a fun and beneficial evening for all.

The MS Challenge .NET team had a bench of well-skilled, speedy, and “experienced” players. Right from the start the two teams took the intensity level up to more than just a charity game, as things became fast-paced and competitive. The MS team was first on the board at approximately 12:00, but the Husky’s Brian Mead scored less than a minute later to tie the game. The MS would not be outdone and scored three more goals, with one on a power play. Then at 4:55, Freshman Brett “S.T.” Lawrence scored on a breakaway to put the Huskies within two goals. Meanwhile, the Husky’s new goaltender for the last week of the season, Freshman Rick “Ricky” Hewitt, made several big glove saves to keep the Dawgs in the match. The first period ended with the MS team leading 4-2.

The 2nd period started and both teams had several good rushes. The MS team continued with their set-up plays, excellent passing and odd-man rushes. The Huskies played tough and continued to rush, but had troubles getting through to the goalie because of the MS’s tough defense. It wasn’t until 14:41 that the Dawgs scored, when Sam Kim put the puck in the back of the net on a power play. Three minutes later the MS team returned the favor. Then at 10:28 Husky defenseman Prescott Littlefield crashed the net on an offensive rush and slammed home a rebound. But the MS team would not be silenced and came back to score four more goals to end the 2nd period, and lead the Dawgs 9-4.

In the third period the MS team scored the first two goals at 17:41 and then at 12:35. With both sides giving their all, the game continued to be fasted paced and heated. At 6:09 Marty “Big Bear” Boyd scored the final goal for the Huskies, while the MS finished the game by netting two more. The final results were MS 13, UW 5.

The Husky Hockey team would like to thank the MS Challenge .NET for assisting the team in raising nearly $800 for the 2001-2002 season. Look for the next MS Challenge .NET vs. Husky Hockey game early next year!
