November 6th Vikings Sweep Huskies by Lisa Winther

If the stillness that settled over Olympicview Arena Friday night before the
game was any evidence of the things to come, it did not become evident
until the end. The Huskies that are normally known as a strong third
period team could not overthrow the dominance of Western Washington
University. The Vikings obliged to hand their opponents a 5-3 loss, the
Huskies first loss after 31 straight regular season wins. More

The Vikings earned another win against the UW team Saturday night on
their own ice at the Bellingham Sportsplex. Again, the Western
Washington team out-hustled the Huskies, despite being out shot 38-26.
The game ended in favor of the Vikings, 3-2, with the Huskies taking their
first double loss weekend in over a year. More

October 15th UW Huskies vs. Walla Walla Wolf Pack by Lisa Winther
Hockey fans gathered at Olympicview Arena in Mountlake Terrace to
witness a delicate dance of intimidation played on the ice. The first game
of the hockey season opened with the UW Huskies and Walla Walla
College Wolfpack handling the puck to entertain their loyal fans. The
Huskies chalked up their first win in the American Collegiate Hockey
Association, 7-4.

The Husky team underestimated the Wolfpack’s organization and
aggression on the ice. Walla Walla member Adam Hubbard assisted
teammate Mike Steinke to score against the Huskies within the first two
minutes of the game. However, the goal awakened the stunned UW
team, who went 26-0 last season, as they rallied against the Wolfpack,
proving to their fans that they were still in the game.

Husky Quintin Schiller scrambled to slide the puck towards Sean O’Brien
during an intense struggle at the net to score for the Huskies. Three
minutes later, the two switched roles to help the UW team gain on the
Walla Walla players and allowing Schiller the first goal of his Husky career.

More of this report here.

October 13th Revenge Served Cold

A quiet meeting room inside the OlympicView Arena skating complex in
Mountlake Terrace slowly filled with decibels Monday night as the UW
hockey team trickled in. By 9:15, close to 20 players sat gathered around
coach Cindy Dayley ready to step on the ice just down the hall.

October 9th Husky Hockey Roster and Preview

The Husky Hockey roster is set for the 2002-2003 season as the team
prepares for their most exciting season ever.

Husky Hockey’s main objective for 2002-2003 is to win the PAC-8 title for
the first time. The team is also working towards winning the 2002 Athletic
Awards I-5 Cup title for the third consecutive year, and on their home ice
for the first time ever. Finally, the team hopes to receive their first-ever
invite to the ACHA DII National Championship Tournament. With a strong
showing against some of the powerhouse PAC-8 and ACHA teams, the
Huskies have a good chance to travel to California for the 20-team
national tournament.

The Huskies have a strong class of veterans returning for the 2002-2003
season, despite losing several talented players to graduation. With the
returning players’ experience on the team, in the PAC-8 conference, and

excellent backgrounds on the ice. Look to the rookies this year to make
an immediate impact and add additional depth to the already solid crew.

Joining the Husky Hockey squad is #3 Eli Troyke – D (after 2 year hiatus
from Husky Hockey), #6 Shayne Sasseen – F (from the Tacoma Puget
Sound Kings - Jr. B), #7 Jamie O’Brien – F (from the Tacoma Rockets –
Midget AA), #20 TJ Anderson – D (from the SnoKing Amateur Hockey –

Returning for their fifth season, head coach Cindy Dayley and assistant
coach Zoë Harris continue to bring leadership and consistency to the
program. Also returning to the staff is assistant coach Devin Harmala, who
was on the coaching staff in three previous seasons.

Husky Hockey continues to set its goals high and prepare for yet another
record-breaking season. With the dedication and hard work from every
person on the team, as individuals and as a united group, the Huskies will
reach their 2002-2003 goals.
