MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – The Huskies entered Olympicview Arena ready to
add another tally to the 12-game winning streak they held over the
Cougars for the past 5 years, but the last 12 minutes of the match swung
a 5-2 win over to Washington State.

The first period was uneventful for either team. The Cougars offered the
UW players three power play opportunities, but the Huskies were unable
to make the advantage work in their favor.

Halfway through the second period neither team controlled the puck. At
10:31 into the period, freshman Colin Hutchison-Flaming netted the first
UW goal, assisted by Quintin Schiller and Matt Ringstad. Three and one-
half minutes later, WSU stepped up to tie with the Huskies.

A thirteenth win was still in sight for the UW team upon beginning the
third period. When the clock wound down to 12:16, the Cougar offense
lit up, WSU claiming the first goal in a run that would kill the Husky
momentum. Fifty-eight seconds later, the Cougars struck a third goal. The
UW team scrambled to shut down WSU, but only restrained the hungry
Cougars for five minutes before the Huskies were trailing 1-4. Another
two minutes disappeared when WSU acquired a 5-1 lead.

In a losing effort, Husky Sean O’Brien slipped a second UW goal with
1:18 left in the game, assisted by Hutchison-Flaming and Jamie O’Brien.

The Cougars ended UW’s winning twelve-game streak over WSU with a
5- 2 win. Cougar goalie Stu Palmer posted a phenomenal game shutting
down rush after rush as the Huskies out shot the Cougars 43-33. The
Huskies fall to 11-9-1 in the ACHA-West region.
