Student Activities Fair |

On Wednesday
May 22, 2002 from 10:30am - 2:30pm on the University of
Washington HUB Lawn, the ice hockey club will be promoting the
Husky Hockey teams, recruiting new members, and handing out the
2002-2003 schedule. Come and meet the players and find out about
the club has to offer and/or what is on deck for next year! |

Lawrence
Wins 1st Team All American Honors |
|
Husky Hockey’s
sophomore assistant captain Brett Lawrence (Mill Creek,
WA) is named to the 1st Team All American from the
American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Lawrence also was
named Regional Player of the Year and to the 1st Team
All-Region in the ACHA-West.
All American
honors are a great finale to a brilliant season for Lawrence.
Already named to the 1st Team All PAC-8, he led the
Huskies to a 27-1 record, with 76 points and 2.92 goals per game
average. Leading the nation in stats, Lawrence’s goal total and
points are the highest in a single season for a Husky.
More ACHA-West
regional awards were presented to the ice hockey team at the
University of Washington.
Head Coach
Cindy Dayley (Seattle, WA) received Regional Coach of the
Year honors in the West for leading the Huskies to a 27-1
season, with two consecutive Athletic Awards I-5 Cup
Championships. Dayley caps off the 2002 season with a 4-year
career win-loss record of 72-19.
Senior goalie
Scott Southard (Selah, WA) was placed on the 1st Team
All-Region in the West, after receiving 1st Team All
PAC-8 honors in February. Southard finished the year leading
the nation with 2.11 GAA and 92.5% Save Average in 25 games.
Senior
defenseman and assistant captain Brian Smith (Tacoma, WA)
was place on the ACHA Honorable Mention All-Region Team,
and also received 1st Team All PAC-8 honors in February.

and Southard Take Honors in ACHA DII |
|
Sophomore forward Brett Lawrence
and senior goalie Scott Southard place first in the American
Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) – DII West Top Performer’s
List. They also lead the country in the ACHA DII stats among
2,000 skaters and 200 goalies for the 2001-2002 season.
Southard stats for 25 games and 1,329 minutes played are 49
goals against, 567 saves, a 2.21 GAA, and a Save Percentage of
92.05%.
Lawrence stats for 26 games are 40 goals, 36 assists, 76 points,
2.92 points per game, and 8 penalty minutes.
Washington also had several other players honored on the ACHA
West Top Performer’s List. They are:

Head Coach Cindy Dayley is named the 2002 Pac-8 Coach of the

|
Head Coach Cindy Dayley is named the 2002 Pac-8 Coach of the
Year at the ice hockey conference s annual banquet. Entered into
the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada in 1999 for being one
of the first women to coach men's collegiate ice hockey, Coach Dayley has a 4-year Husky career win-loss record of 72-19.
Dayley led the 2002 team to their first-ever regular season
undefeated record of 26-0, an Athletic Awards I-5 Cup title for
the second year in a row, first place in the regular season
Pac-8 play, and second place in the 2002 Pac-8 playoffs.

Upsets Undefeated Huskies |

The USC Trojans
showed their two-time champions' experience as they handed the
young and inexperienced UW Huskies their first and only loss of
the year at
the PAC-8 Championship game Saturday night. More »

Huskies Win Semi-finals vs. Stanford |
The
Huskies downed Stanford in the PAC-8 Semi-finals with a score of
11-4 Friday night. Leading the team was senior Captain Brian
Mead with 5 goals.
Saturday night the Huskies will
face the USC Trojans for a repeat showdown from last year. |

Perfect
Huskies Belong On Top - A UW Daily article |
As it turns out, 26-0 just isn’t
good enough.
The UW club hockey team played flawlessly this season. Not one
loss or even a single tie blemished the perfect year. Hat tricks
came in bunches for the Huskies, as they dominated with such
blowout wins as 21-1, 16-1 and 10-3. Only twice was Washington
even pushed to one-goal games. Please have a read of this

Seal their Undefeated Regular Season |
|
In
front of the largest and most rowdy crowd ever, the Huskies
tallied two more wins to finish the 2001-2002 regular season
with an ACHA record of 26-0 and a PAC-8 record of 17-0. With
their first undefeated season ever in Husky Hockey history, the
team won the final games
against Stanford with scores of 6-2 and 5-0, also ending the perfect year with
their first shutout of the season, by Senior goaltender Scott
Southard.
Enjoying the victory and the season with the fans, the Huskies
now turn their focus to the Intercollegiate PAC-8 Ice Hockey
Championships, hosted by Stanford at the San Jose Icoplex in San
Jose, CA – February 15-16, 2002. ACHA National Tournament
invitation will also be sent to the top 4 teams in the West on
February 6, 2002. |

win the I-5 Cup - second year running! |
 
The Huskies swept the Oregon Ducks on the road this past weekend
for the 2002 Athletic Awards I-5 Cup. For the second year in a
row the Huskies have earned the title, which pits the two I-5
rivals together in a 4-game series.

January Ranking |

Hockey moved up one spot on the ACHA-West January Ranking to
6th place. With one more ranking period slated before the end
of the season, the Huskies hope for a top 4 seed, which would
result in an invite to the ACHA DII National Tournament in New
York, NY - February 27 - March 2, 2002. Meanwhile, the Huskies
prepare for the Intercollegiate PAC-8 Hockey Champions in San
Jose, CA - hosted by Stanford February 15- 16, 2002. View the

defeat the Cougars |
The
Husky Hockey team traveled through the snow to play school
rival, Washington State Cougars, this past weekend. The team
sealed two more wins when they defeated the Cougars 6-1 and
6-2.
The Huskies improve their undefeated ACHA record to
22-0 and 13-0 in the PAC-8 Conference. The team travels this
coming weekend to Eugene, Oregon to play the University of
Oregon for the Athletic Awards I-5 Cup title. The final home
games of the season are Feb 1 and 2 against Stanford.

The Husky Hockey team overcame
staggering odds to start off the second half of the season as
they swept Eastern Washington in Spokane for the fourth game in
a row. Missing several key players and skating through
“interesting” officiating, the Huskies swept the Eagles with

Evening
Magazine of King 5 TV will be at the Friday January
11th game when the Huskies host the Western Washington Vikings.
The TV magazine will shoot footage of the Husky team for a story
they will air on February 1st at 7:00 pm on Channel 5 in the

Huskies placed two players in the #1 and #2 spots of the ACHA-West
Top Performers Lists for the first half of the 2001-2002 season.
This is the first time a Husky player has received this honor.
Stats were tallied from 30 teams on the West Coast from
approximately 540 skaters and 60 goalies.

Assistant Coach Zoe Harris tally their 60th career Husky Hockey
win in 4 years by beating Eastern Washington University Friday
night with a score of 5-3. The Coaches, who started in the
1998-1999 season, currently are 60-18 half way through the
2001-2002 season. Sharing the 60 wins are veteran players Marty
Boyd, Brian Smith, and Scott Southard. |

Huskies are the first team to beat the Trojans in
PAC-8 action in over 2 years. Husky Hockey improves
their record to 2-0 in the PAC-8 and 5-0 in ACHA
action.

this past weekend in Spokane, Washington, and by sweeping the

Hockey Tryouts!
|
|
Husky Hockey tryouts start Monday Oct 1st at Olympicview
Arena. Registration starts at 8:30pm sharp. All
registration forms must be completed before tryouts. It is $20
per tryout, which will applied to the total cost of the season
if you make the team. Following registration will be off-ice
warm-up/conditioning and then on-ice tryouts. Please bring
workout clothes and shoes for off-ice conditioning.

Fri. Oct. 5th. Be ready to work out at 8:30pm.

Trade Center Tragedy

Husky
Hockey would like to extend their thoughts and prayers to the
passengers and crews of the aircraft involved in the
unfortunate event on Tuesday September 11, 2001. Our hearts
also go out to the thousands who suffered in the buildings and
on the ground. And we applaud the dedicated men and women who
are helping with the rescue effort - for providing comfort and
solace for the families and friends of the victims. If you would like to
contribute to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund in
the name of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA),
please read the letter from the
ACHA president.

first informational meeting of the year for the Husky Hockey
Club at the University of Washington will be held on Sunday,
September 30th at 4:30pm at Mary Gates Hall
on campus. This is the day before classes start. Come join us
and meet new and old members, the coaches, the board, and find
out more about both teams available to you within the club.

Rules Clinic

Hockey is pleased to present, with the cooperation of Cascade
Hockey Officials Association and USA
Hockey, the 2001 NCAA Rules Clinic held on August
26th, 2001 from 9:00 AM to 4:00pm at Olympicview Arena in
Mountlake Terrace, Washington (20 minutes North of downtown
Seattle).
All ACHA coaches are invited,
as well as USA Hockey sanctioned level 3 or 4 officials.
Officials will be certified in NCAA ice hockey rules and have
priority in scheduling for the ACHA Husky Hockey game
schedule.

Night at Everett Aquasox baseball game
|
Husky Hockey's first promotional event for the
2001-2002 season will be at the Everett AquaSox baseball game on August 25th at 6:00pm for
"College Night." The AquaSox will play against the Salem Keizer
Volcanoes. Also featured are fireworks and a postgame concert by band,
Zoe Girl. Husky Hockey will hand out the new 2001-2002 team schedule
at their booth, while players will meet the fans. Come out and support
the AquaSox - a great minor league baseball team!
