Game #2 Report – Friday Nov. 3rd:
Huskies 5, Stanford 2
The Huskies came out flat again for the second night
in the row, this time paying with the first two goals
scored by Stanford. The first goal and only goal of
the first period was scored at 13:46 on 4-on-4 play.
The Huskies headed to the locker room down by one
goal.
Stanford started the second period with more drive
than ever and scored again at 16:01 on a power play.
Both teams continued to run and gun with their speed,
and the Huskies finally got up on the board when Paul
Margolis took a slap-shot, on a 2-on-1 play, which
found the back of the net at 11:15. The goal sparked
the Huskies to pick up the pace, and defensively shut
down Stanford’s impressive rushes. At 8:03 the Huskies
had a power play and Brett Lawrence 1-timed the puck
into the upper right hand corner with a slap shot,
from a pass from Shaun Lawrence. And the Huskies
scored again at 5:31 when Brian Mead found himself on
a break away and put the puck passed the goalie in the
upper right corner. The second period ended with the
Huskies leading 3-2.
The third period turned out to be the charm again for
the Huskies as they improve their team offensive and
defensive play. Working together they shut down the
quick turn-around rushes by Stanford and were able to
control the play a bit more. At 14:04 Paul Margolis
passed to Adam Senta who streaked down the right side
and put the puck past the goalie’s left shoulder. Then
at 5:14 Matt Carlson scored again from a pass from
Shaun Lawrence. The game ended with the Huskies
winning 5-2.
Final Game Stats:
The Huskies took 28 shots compared to the Stanford’s
24 shots on net. The Huskies logged 14 penalty minutes
to Stanford’s 22 minutes in penalties. Shaun Lawrence
led the Huskies in points with two assists, and Randy
Shigetani was the leader in plus-minus for the
Huskies.
